Did you know?

Many Red Admiral Butterflies migrate to the UK from North Africa and continental Europe - arriving in spring. But some adults manage to survive the winter by hibernating here.

Spot them in a variety of habitats - from marshes to gardens, seashores to mountains!

Males are territorial and can be seen actively flying patrolling their marked area.

In early summer, females lay eggs on the tips of nettles. After 8-9 days, caterpillars hatch. The caterpillar wraps itself with silk in the leaf of the host plant, forming a cocoon. After the final pupa stage, a beautiful butterfly emerges!
